Joel grew up in St Joseph in a family that had real estate in its DNA. Joel’s grandfather came to St. Joseph from Germany at age sixteen with seven dollars in his pocket. Over the years, he managed to raise a family, work as a carpenter, and to purchase several investment homes along the way. Although Joel entered the ministry and served churches in California, New England, and in Michigan; real estate was always a part of his larger life. In the mid 1980s, Joel and his wife, Victoria, were partners in establishing the Nathaniel Hosmer Inn, Camden, Maine. They also built an investment house in Aruba and renovated an 1865 farmhouse in the Grand Rapids area.
Coming back to St. Joseph for ‘retirement,’ it was a natural for Joel to join his daughter, Gretta, and the Coldwell Banker Advantage team. He specializes in investment properties as well as having a pretty keen eye for what makes a great deal in a primary residence or vacation rental. From his years in the ministry, Joel realizes that life is really about people and relationships. He brings that personal perspective to every conversation and and to every negotiation.
Joel graduated from Gordon-Conwell Seminary in Boston and has his doctorate from The Chicago Theological Seminary. He continues to serve the church world as a part time consultant in helping churches move from merely surviving to thriving in their communities. Over the years, Joel has served with the Benton Harbor Street Ministry, Berrien County Association of Churches, and the Berrien Community Foundation. Joel is glad to be back to southwest Michigan, back to family, grand kids, Lake Michigan, boating, fishing, and old friends.
